Dissected Skull Series
- The dissected skull series presented here is
the product of a collaborative effort by Tom Lakars and John
Wheeler at the UIC College of Dentistry. In 1972, a series of
skulls was selected for the project. Beginning in 1976, four
skulls were dissected using a belt driven handpiece and ordinary
rotary instruments familiar to dentists before the advent of high
speed. Three of those skulls are presented here.
- Photographs of the dissections have been an
integral part of dental education here at UIC since that time. Dr.
Lakars is an assistant professor, Department of Oral Biology at
UIC. John Wheeler was at that time a dental student at UIC. Dr.
Wheeler graduated in 1978 and entered the U.S. Navy Dental
Corps.
