This may be the appearance of enamel immediately after orthodontic bands are remoed. Note the decalcified defect created from the band. Below this is a vertical furrow which was also created.
Three months after band removal, the white lesion size has decreased, as has the furrow area. This may be due to wear and remineralization. After band removal, the porous external micro-surface will begin to remineralize. The surface can also be removed by wear. This remineralization process along with a wearing away of some of the surface enamel is referred to as enamel healing.
