Fluoride Levels in Sound and Carious Enamel

 

  • Lowest F levels are found in sound bulk enamel.
  • Highest F levels are found in the enamel layer over sub-surface lesion. Higher Ca++ and HPO4 = are in this area (20-50 u in depth).
  • As acid penetrates, it diffuses between the enamel rods.
