Pit and fissure sealants:

Most carious lesions occur on the occlusal surfaces of teeth.
This due to:
1. Fluoride is not as effective in the pit and fissure areas as it
is on smooth surfaces.

2. The grooves in some teeth are so deep as to prevent the
bristles of a brush from cleaning the area of food and bacteria.

-The graphics best describe why teeth with deep pits and
fissures decay so easily and why sealants are so effective in
caries prevention.
