Caries may be active or not active.

1. Could watch and see if lesions grow in 6 months or one year to show caries activity.

2. Evaluate white spot lesions as to texture, appearance and location.

3.  Observe the carious lesion appearance if the cavitation is large enough and accessible.

4. Bacterial test-ms levels over 100,000 cfu considered at risk while under 100,000 cfu considered not at risk.

 There 4 criteria may be used to help determine caries activity.
