REVIEW PROBLEMS : Dosing Regimen Design
An adult male patient (55 years old, 81 kg) was prescribed an oral antibiotic. The physician requires you to design a dosing regimen to maintain steady-state plasma concentrations between 2.1 and 3.9 mg/L. The antibiotic is available in 100 mg and 250 mg capsules. It is 75% bioavailable, has an apparent volume of distribution of 1.5 L/kg and elimination half-life of 10 hours. Assume very rapid absorption, so that the kinetics are similar to that following an IV bolus, and a one compartment model.
