This two credit-hour course is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to respond to requests for drug information. These skills will assist the practitioner regardless of practice setting. Specifically, these skills include the categorization of the request, searching for information to respond to the request, analysis of information retrieved, and formulation and delivery of a response.

A systematic approach to the search for drug information will be emphasized, with the initial approach being broad and progressively specializing until the information required for the response is obtained. The students will learn the advantages and disadvantages of various textbooks available as drug information resources. Indexing and abstracting services will be discussed and used by the students. Finally, the students will gain experience in the analysis and use of primary medical literature.
