POLS 200 ON-LINE COURSE SYLLABUS

This course is designed to affect the way you think about
political problems and issues. In particular, it is designed to make you
think like a political researcher, one who ask interesting questions about
government and politics and then undertakes research projects to get
answers to these questions. To do this, students will be required to
compose a number of short essays describing how they think a particular
question can be answered. As well, students will be required to take a
midterm and final examination given in the Department of Political
Science. Students will need to schedule these examinations by sending
e-mail to Professor Strom.
This a completely on-line course. There is no textbook and all
that students need can be gotten from the internet, mostly at this site.
The course is also self paced, which means that students can proceed at
their own pace. As such, the course is not organized into weeks like
most courses but into a series of lessons, each focusing on a particular
issue or skill.
The individual lessons are not listed here but can be examined
by clicking on the lessons button on the initial page or on the line
below.

Class Participation
As this is an on-line course, the nature of class participation
is a little different from other courses. In this course, class
participation is done by posting to, and reading from, the bulletin
board established for this class. Students can post questions, problems,
and, from time to time, projects to this board and they can and will be
required to critique the works of others.
Grading
Grades for this course will be based on the projects required with
each lesson (40%), a midterm and final examination given in the department
of political science (40%), and the class participation noted above (20%).
