Here are some of the data that students collected as part of the Love Test exercise. I have reported the scores for 16 participants such that each person’s responses are represented within a separate row. The variables are depicted in the columns. The different numbers, 1-28, refer to questions 1-28 on the Love Test. (To refresh your memory of these questions, please see the following link: http://www.uic.edu/classes/psych/psych242f/spring2004/lab4.htm.) As a general rule, “yes” responses are coded as 1’s and “no” responses are coded as 0’s. For the rating scales, the numbers range from 1 (which is the left most rating) to 7 (which is the right-most rating). Everything else should be self-explanatory.
Your assignment is three-fold. First, use the operational definitions for Love that you and your section members generated a couple of weeks ago in order to calculate each person’s love score. Please note that I have included information for all of the questions generated by the different sections; your operational definition may only reflect a handful of these variables. You will need to stick with your section’s operational definitions. Second, once you have computed the appropriate love score or each of these 16 people, you will need to find both (a) the mean of those scores and (b) the standard deviation of those scores.
Note: For extra fun, if you want to calculate the Love Score for your friend who completed the love test, go to the following web site: http://www.web-research-design.net/p242/lovedata.txt . This web site contains all the data that were submitted as part of the assignment. Simply scroll down the page and find your alias. The corresponding row of numbers are the data submitted by your friend. The numbers are ordered in the same way described above, but might be a bit more difficult to read since they are not in a table format.
