E-Mail: E-mail is probably the easiest way for you to reach me. I generally check e-mail more than once a day and will try to respond to your e-mails within 48 hours. If you have not heard from me within that time frame, please resend the e-mail. It is possible that there was a problem with the server and I did not get your first message. However, neither I nor your TAs will accept any assignments sent via e-mail. Paper copies of assignments MUST be submitted. Also, because of a problem with viruses, attachments will not be opened. In some cases people are unaware that they are sending a virus with an attachment and it ends up creating problems on multiple computers. For this reason, I do not open attachments. Please make sure your message is contained within the text of your e-mail.
GRADES: Your grades are based on the total number
of points you earn from section Exams, Web Page Assignments, and Writing
Activities. Your grade will be based out of 525 points.

Exam 3
Exam 4
Exams (400 points):
You will have 4 section exams. Each exam will consist of 50 Multiple
Choice, True/False type questions and is worth 100 points. The exams will
be completed on a scantron. This means that you need to come prepared
with a sharpened number 2 pencil.
Make Ups: It is important that everyone is present for the exam. Missing an exam makes things difficult for both me and you. Make ups will ONLY be allowed with PRIOR approval (no less than 24 hours before the exam). Simply sending and e-mail or leaving a voicemail DOES NOT count for prior approval. Prior approval means that you have 1) given me your reason for needed to miss the exam, 2) I view this reason as acceptable, and 3) we have scheduled a time for you to take the make-up exam. If an EMERGENCY occurs the day of an exam, you MUST bring in some form of verifiable documentation NO LATER THAN the NEXT class period. ALL make ups must be completed within 1 week of the exam during my office hours or the TA's office hours.
Note on PLAGIARISM: Plagiarism is the unauthorized
use of the language and/or thoughts of another author and representation
of them as one's own. If you are going to use the words or thoughts
of someone other than yourself, you must acknowledge the source. If even
a few words come directly from another source, those words must be quoted.
It is your responsibility to know what plagiarism is, and the consequence
for it. Any assignment - Web Page or Writing Assignment - where
information has been copied, will result in a ZERO for that assignment
. NO EXCEPTIONS. It is your responsibility to make sure that you are putting
things into your own words and giving credit to the author for ideas taken
from sources.

Web Page Assignment (75 points):
With the growing interest in the internet, more and more information
can be found online. This assignment is designed to help you find more
information on some of the topics we are discussing in class. Your task
is to
1) find a Web Page that is related to the material we are covering
in class or in the book
2) print the web page - so it can be read (3 points)
3) write a 1-2 page summary
- Summarize the information that appears in the web page(6 points)
- Explain how the information in the web compares/relates to the information
in the chapter (6 points)
* NOTE: Do Not simply summarize the chapter ... show the connection
between the 2 sources.
Be sure to specify what information is from the book and what information
is from the web page. Also since this is a summary, make sure things
are in your own words. No more than 1 quote of no more than 3 lines within
the summary. Excessive quoting will result in you the losing points for
that portion of the assignment.
You may complete 6 Web Page Assignments during the course of the semester (each assignment is worth 15 points). YOU CAN ONLY DO 1 PER CHAPTER . Please note the Due Dates listed above. LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
NOTE: Web page assignments can be turned in at the beginning or end of class. They can also be given me or the TAs during office hours. IF you are turning in a web page assignment outside of these times, it needs to be dated and initialed by the secretary (or other staff person in the main office) and left in my mailbox. Web Assignments SHOULD NOT be slid under my door. Web Assignments left in my mailbox not dated will be considered turned in when I receive it - even if that is a day or two later. And if it is past the due date, it will not be graded.
Writing Assignment (50 points): You will receive a separate handout which will give you 3 options on writing assignments. Each of the assignments is worth 50 points. The handout will include details on what you will need to do for each of the assignments and the point distribution for the assignment. You will need to choose 1 of these options. The Writing Assignment is due Thursday April 10, 2003 by 10:45 am in BSB 1046A. We will NOT have class on that day.
You can earn 2 bonus points per class that your paper is turned in early (up to 10 points). Late papers will be penalized 1 point per day including weekends and holidays that your paper is late. ABSOLUTELY NO PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE LAST DAY OF CLASS THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2003.
NOTE: Papers and outside references MUST be given directly to me or the TA. You will need to sign in when you paper is turned in. Papers left in a mailbox, slid under the office door, given to another TA, instructor, or staff person WILL NOT be considered turned in. Late Points will continue to accumulate.
Extra Credit: You can also earn up to 20 extra credit points from the exams (5 points x 4 exams) by writing a question that could have been asked on the material covered for that exam and providing the answer. You can also earn up to 15 extra credit points from completing 1 extra web page assignment. Finally, you can earn up to 10 extra credit points by turning your paper in early. NO OTHER EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE AVAILABLE.
