Psychology 343 - Final Grades

The grades were last updated on Decemper 9, 2004. The grades below are final.

Note: These grades are final.  I will only change a grade if a homework, quiz, or exam grade was mis-entered.  If this occured, you will need to produce the original document that was mis-entered.  I will not curve exam scores or add points to boost people to the next grade.

A few notes about how grades were calculated:

Quizzes -- I dropped your 3 lowest quiz scores. I counted the 'Which Test' quiz like another quiz, but elected to drop an additional quiz.

Exams and homeworks -- I droped your lowest homework and exam.score. If you did not take the final, it was the exam that was dropped.  It was also dropped if it was your lowest exam score.

Attendance -- Attendence is based out of 100% which represents the number of sections you attended, divided by the total number of sections we had.  These were a little different accross sections (e.g. one section was cancelled due to power outage), contact your TA for details about your attendence grade.

Totals -- Exam, homework, and quiz totals are in the table below.  For homeworks and quizzes I converted all scores to percentages (all homeworks and quizzes are out of 10 points).  Quiz totals represent the average of your 7 best quizzes.


How was your grade computed? Here is the formula I used to compute final grades:

Final grade as of 12/3 = .60*mean(ex1-ex3) + .20*mean(mean(7 best scores of q1-q10) and attendence) + .20*mean(hw1-hw5).

A few things to note about this formula:

I converted hw1-5 and q1-q10 to percentages (by dividing by 10) before plugging them into the formula above.

I followed the guidelines outlined in the syllabus with the exception of weighting quiz scores with attendence scores.  I had originally intended to weight attendence and homework together. However, I mentioned to one or two people that quiz scores and attendence would be weighted together. So I decided to carry this through.  At best it increased people's scores one or two points. Note that, in the above formula, the attendence and quizzes are equally weighted.

At this point, if you have questions about grades you received for specific assignments, you should contact your TA directly. If a grade was mis-entered you will need to show your TA your copy of the assignment. Your TA will let me know if any changes in grades are necessary.
