here to see the final grades for the course, sorted by alias.
Here is a description of the variables shown:
ALIAS = your alias
EXAM1P = percent correct for exam1
EXAM2P = percent correct for exam2
EXAM3P = percent correct for exam3
EXAM4PC = percent correct for exam4 (with 5 points added to raw number correct for those who got the extra credit correct)
FINAL = percent correct for the final exam
SECTION=percentage points awarded for section activities (homeworks, participation) [Please contact your TA if you have specific questions about these points]
GRADE= your final quantitiative grade in the course. The average of your four best exams (out of five: exam 1, exam 2, exam 3, exam 4, and the final) counts 90% toward this grade; the remaining 10% is accounted for by your section grade. Note: I added 1% point to each exam score before calculating this variable. This is designed to give you the benefit of the doubt regarding decimal places and rounding issues. I will not round GRADE up because it is already based on having rounded each exam up one percentage point.
EXAMPLE: The person with the alias "bear" received a .79, .48, .88, 1.06 on the first four exams. This person received an .88 on the final exam. Since the lowest of these five scores is .48, I've dropped that score, leaving four scores: .79, .88, 1.06, and .88. In order to account for rounding issues, I've added one percentage point to each of these exam scores, yielding .80, .89, 1.07, and .89. The average of these four scores is .9125. Bear's section grade is 1.00. Since the section grade counts 10% toward the final grade, we multiply .10 by 1, yielding .1 and add this to .90*.9125 = .82125 (since the exams count 90% toward the final grade. .1 + .82125 = .92125 or .9213. Bear receives a .9213 or 'A' in the course. Congratulations Bear!
LETTER = your letter grade in the course. I've used the standard 10% rule for these grades; 80%- 89% = B, for example.
Please see the syllabus for more information on grading policies.
Please check this over and make sure it is correct. I will not be making corrections to the grades after the Wednesday evening. You have between now (Tueday) and then (Wed p.m.) to look this over and make sure we have recorded things correctly.
