Independent Practice/Individual Professionals

• The NASW defines an IP as "one who, wholly or in part, practices his profession outside the aegis of a governmental or duly incorporated voluntary agency.

• The scope of independent practice has increased with:

  • the expansion of state licensure
  • regulation
  • lobbying (Stoesz, 1989).
