    In this course, designed for elementary school teachers of foreign languages, we will explore the practical application of language acquisition theories to the classroom.  Teachers will develop the following:

KNOWLEDGE:   Teachers will…
… acquire a basic understanding of second language acquisition.
… learn to make purposeful decisions in the classroom that reflect an understanding of    communicative language teaching, content-based instruction, and the incorporation of hands-on cultural activities.
… become familiar with national foreign language standards.
… understand how to create thematically-oriented curricula.

SKILLS:  Teachers will…
… demonstrate effective techniques for teaching foreign languages in context.
… develop and execute communicative lesson plans and curricula.
… create a portfolio of teaching lessons and materials.
… incorporate useful instructional media and technology.
