Course requirements

1) Students are required to attend all class sessions and complete all assigned readings and assignments. Inform your instructor in advance if you must miss a class. If possible, missing 1/2 of a class is obviously preferable to missing an entire class; doing this twice equals missing an entire class.

After the second missed class, your final grade will drop by 5% each absence.

Late assignments can be turned in within 24 hours of the due date, and with a 10% reduction in the grade. No late work will be accepted after 24 hours.

2) All participants are expected to become part of a professional community of teachers by:

a. Contributing substantively to all class discussions and activities (offering opinions, asking questions, giving good feedback to your classmates)

b. Joining the AATSP (Spanish) or the AATF (French) for a low student fee.

c. Joining the free listserv FL Teach.

3) There is a good deal of technology work in this course. If you do not have a fairly modern computer & programs at home, you must make time to come to campus and complete your assignments. Lack of hardware, software, or rapid internet access will not be accepted as an excuse for failure to complete assignments.

Note: You are required to complete work in Excel and Power Point, and you must create and publish a Webquest (using Dreamweaver or Netscape Composer, for example). UIC’s ACCC offers free workshops in all these areas.
