Publication of Manuscripts and Grant Writing

Our STTP trainees are required to publish their results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely fashion. Although the primary responsibility for publication clearly lies with their mentors, other members of the STTP faculty are also asked to review the trainees' manuscripts where appropriate to their expertise. We believe that regular critique and evaluation is needed to optimally develop the oral and written communication skills of our STTP trainees for effective future careers as independent investigators, as evidenced by our requirement that all trainees submit fellowship applications during their second year of support such as individual NRSA proposals to the NIH, or other fellowship applications to foundations and scientific societies.
