All graduate students nominated and accepted into the STTP, receive
teaching or research assistantships that include a stipend (currently
$24,000), tuition and partial fee waivers, as well as a yearly travel
stipend of $1,000 to cover costs for attending national scientific
meetings and workshops relevant to the student’s thesis research
and training. The STTP provides up to 2 years of stipend and travel
support for each student, pending acceptable grades in didactic
course work and evidence of productivity and research progress on
their thesis project.
The University of Illinois at Chicago is located close to downtown
Chicago, with easy access to the vibrant cultural and social aspects
of this great city. There is extensive interaction with other cell
and molecular biologists within the University of Illinois and neighboring
universities in the Chicago metropolitan area, for example at the
annual Chicago Signal Transduction Symposia held at the Northwestern
University downtown campus.
I hope that you will consider our Training Program as you make
your plans for graduate studies. If you have any questions, please
feel free to send me an e-mail (sackerma@uic.edu)
or give me a call at 312-996-6149, and I would be happy to speak
with you.
Sincerely,
Steven Ackerman
