The Center for Cardiovascular Research
The Division of Cardiology is involved in a variety of clinical and basic research
activities and, along with the Department of Medicine, works in partnership in the
activities of the multidepartmental UIC Center for Cardiovascular Research (CCVR).
A number of faculty in the Division of Cardiology hold appointments in the CCVR,
linking the clinical activities of the section with the vibrant basic research environment
within UIC’s larger medical school campus. This partnership forms a union of the
clinical resources of the division and the many strength of well-established CCVR
research programs in cardiac metabolism, cardiomyocyte contractility, pulmonary hypertension
and right heart function, and cardiac resuscitation, along with the unique technical
capabilities and additional core services of the CCVR.
In addition to faculty research within the CCVR, Cardiology faculty are actively
engaged in the CCVR run, multi-departmental graduate program (Ph.D. Concentration
in Cardiovascular Sciences), that is available to UIC graduate students in partnering
basic science departments, providing graduate students lectures, lab rotation experiences,
and thesis supervision.
Within the CCVR, there exist many multidisciplinary NIH-sponsored research and training
grants which support and provide research opportunities for pre- and post-doctoral
trainees, including cardiology fellows. For more about the active research within
the CCVR and the interdepartmental partnerships follow this link www.ccvr.uic.edu.
