Clinical Care

Heart Center: Arrhythmia Center

At the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Arrhythmia Center, our mission is to offer unique, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients with atrial fibrillation, ventricular arrhythmias, and other electrophysiology issues.  UIC investigators have developed and are testing a patented blood test that may predict the onset of atrial fibrillation, and the treatment efficacy of various therapeutic options.  The faculty is involved in the design of clinical trials locally, nationally, and internationally.

Diagnostic procedures
Electrophysiology study
Tilt table test
Event recorder
Holter monitor
Implantable loop recorder

Therapeutic procedures - implantation
Pacemaker implantation
Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation
Cardiac resynchronization therapy
Laser lead extraction

Therapeutic procedures - ablation
Radiofrequency ablation of SVT’s, VT
Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation & flutter
Non-contact mapping and intra-cardiac echocardiography

In addition to applying the most advanced techniques and technology in the EP lab, we pursue an active research program, including basic research, animal research, and human trials.
