Fellowship: Program Structure
The fellowship program is structured so as to ensure that graduates are completely facile with all aspects of contemporary cardiology and are qualified to function as consulting subspecialists in any clinical venue. Beyond this, the program is intentionally flexible so that it can support a variety of different career goals, including clinical practice, hospital based subspecialty practice, and basic and clinical research. The first year of the fellowship is highly structured and is comprised of a series of rotations through all the major areas of cardiology. The second and third years are less structured and include 10 to 12 months of research time, during which the fellow is expected to identify an area of interest and to produce a substantial work of scholarship. Up to 4 months of this time can be used for clinical electives including cardiac CT and MR, vascular imaging, pediatric cardiology and CT surgery.
Two fourth year Interventional Cardiology fellowship positions are available. Fourth year fellowship positions in EP and heart failure / devices therapy are anticipated in the near future.
