UIC Section of Cardiology

Research

The Center for Cardiovascular Research

The Section of Cardiology is involved in a variety of clinical and basic research activities. Many of these are under the auspices of the Center for Cardiovascular Research (jointly directed by R. John Solaro and Samuel Dudley), which has linked the clinical activities of the section with the vibrant basic research environment within UIC’s larger medical school campus. This initiative has supported such research interactions as studies with faculty in the Department of Physiology investigating cellular mechanisms of cardiac muscle dysfunction, stem cell biology, mechanisms of arrhythmogenesis, and the genetics of hypertension.

There are multidisciplinary NIH-sponsored program project grants and training grants are present within the institution to support both pre- and post-doctoral trainees who have long terms interests in cardiovascular research.
