HISTOPATHOLOGY CORE LABORATORY (HCL)

Purpose
The study of animal and human tissues is optimized by the existence of an infrastructure allowing for their routine acquisition, processing, and evaluation. The HCL provides full support to investigators who require tissue fixation and evaluation. This core lab is maintained and operated by the Benya Lab, and is a part of the UIC Infectious Gastroenterology Initiative. Services and equipment include those relating to tissue processing and image acquisition:
Tissue Processing
- Formalin-fixation and paraffin-embedding
- Tissue sectioning with microtomes and cryotstats (ThermoShandon)
- Automated immunohistochemistry (Dako)
- Cell counting and sizing (Z2 Coulter Counter)
I mage Acquisition
- Nikon E600 fluorescent microscope with digital RGB camera
- Leica inverted fluorescent microscope with digital RGB camera
- Nikon SMU-6 stereomicroscope with digital RGB camera
- Arcturus laser capture microscope
- Ziess 410 confocal microscope
