BENYA LAB -Post-doctoral Positions Available
We are currently looking for an MD or PhD postdoctoral researcher who will study the mechanisms regulating mRNA stability of the galanin-1 receptor (Gal1R). We have shown that whereas Gal1R are not normally expressed by epithelial cells lining the colon, they are upregulated in response to inflammatory events where they act to cause fluid secretion. The time of Gal1R expression by these epithelial cells is regulated by mRNA stability elements located within the GAL1R gene's 3'UTR. We are currently looking to identify protein(s) acting at the 3'UTR that regulate mRNA stability.
We are also looking for an a second postdoctoral researcher who will study the mechanisms whereby GRP receptor activation of focal adhesion kinase regulates the ability of colon cancer cells to attach to the extracellular matrix. We have shown that GRP and its receptor are up-regulated by colon cancers, and when present, act as morphogens and retain tumor cells in a well differentiated state.
The lab has excellent resources and equipment. Its equipment serves as the basis for the Histopathology Core Lab . Applicants must be interested in teaching, and in serving as consultants for users of the HCL.
