Clinical Interests
In addition to caring for patients with general GI disorders in my office, my clinical and research interests focus on the management of patients with complex pancreatic and biliary disorders. As director of the endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) program at UIC, I am referred many patients for this procedure.
Indications for EUS include:
- staging and diagnosis of known tumors of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, rectum, pancreas and biliary system
- performing EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration of medial stinal, celiac, perigastric, and peripancreatic lymph nodes and masses
- performing FNA and/or biopsy of solid and cystic lesions of the pancreas for diagnosis
- assessing submucosal lesions of the GI tract seen on routine endoscopy
- performing celiac plexus neurolysis for mangement of severe intractable pain from certain GI malignancies
