Letter from the Chief

Dear colleagues, physicians, alumni and friends,

As we kick off the new year, I am proud to say that this upcoming year looks very promising. The hallmarks of our section and the medical center – patient care, research and education – are all moving forward at a record pace. We recently established an
Inflammatory Bowel Disease clinic directed by Allan Halline, MD. The clinic hopes to combine research, excellent patient care, and education for our fellows in one of the most common yet complicated diseases we encounter in gastroenterology. Please visit www.ibd.uic.edu for more information about the new clinic.

Secondly, we also established our new Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Unit under the leadership of Dr. Xavier Llor. Dr. Llor’s genetic counseling should be a tremendous benefit to the families of those afflicted with colon cancer. Please visit www.fgicu.uic.edu for more information about the clinic.

As always, I welcome your thoughts and comments. Thank you for your continued support of the Section of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Gail Hecht, MD
Professor of Medicine
Section Chief, Digestive Diseases and Nutrition
