| Basic Research Interests |
Dr. Llor’s research mainly relates to colorectal cancer and specifically two main issues: familial or
hereditary forms of colorectal cancer and the effects of nutrients on this cancer. Regarding the first
point, the main goal is to be able to unveil the genetic alterations responsible for a great deal of
hereditary colorectal cancers of which we still don’t know the altered genes, while using our knowledge
of the already known alterations to further advise affected families through genetic counseling.

| Clinical Interests |
Dr. Llor established the Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Unit (FGICU) at UIC. The Unit offers an integrated approach to care for families with inherited gastrointestinal cancers, including genetic counseling, pre-genetic and genetic testing, and cancer prevention and surveillance. Dr. Llor also contributes to the UIC CRC screening clinic that uses state of the art magnification colonoscopes that enhance the detection rate of very small lesions in the colon. |
