The Digestive Diseases and Liver
Center houses subspecialty programs, to provide a continuum of care
for you. The five programs dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and
study of digestive and liver diseases include:
- General Gastroenterology. We see patients with

Screening. Using in-depth personal interviews, family history,
physical examination, state-of-the-art screenings and therapeutic
intervention, we provide comprehensive and integrated care for
colorectal cancer patients and their families. Health

Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
|
|
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a
well-established and highly useful technique for the diagnosis,
staging, and treatment of lesions involving the upper GI tract,
rectum, pancreas, biliary tree, mediastinum, and retroperitoneum.
A
common indication for EUS is assessment of submucosal lesions found
incidentally during endoscopy when routine endoscopic biopsies are
nondiagnostic. EUS imaging alone can often confirm such benign
submucosal lesions as lipomas and leiomyomas. When combined with
fine-needle aspiration (FNA), EUS can assist in the diagnosis of
submucosal leiomyosarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs),
carcinoids, carcinomas, and lymphomas when conventional biopsies are
negative.
The
University of Illinois at Chicago is one of only a few institutions
in Chicago performing EUS and EUS-guided FNA or celiac plexus
neurolysis. Over the past 8 years, UIC has become a major referral
center for physicians in the Chicagoland area and now performs over
300 EUS procedures annually.

Halline for EUS, please call 312-996-3808. You may also contact
