Lectureship History |
|
The Stephen L Winter, MD Memorial Library Fund, the Department of Medicine, and the Sections of Hepatology and Digestive Diseases and Nutrition established this lectureship in hepatology to honor the memory and accomplishments of Stephen L Winter, MD (1941-1983), who served as a faculty member in the Department of Medicine from 1974-1983.
Dr. Winter received his medical degree and completed his residency training in medicine at the University of Maryland. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Chicago and subsequently joined the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1974.
Dr. Winter distinguished himself as an excellent physician, teacher, and clinical scientist. His deep and sincere concern for the welfare of his patients was an inspiration to his students, residents and fellows and also to his fellow faculty members. He taught us that excellent patient care could be delivered in a collegial teaching environment using the principles of clinical science and the art of listening. This lectureship in hepatology is a tribute to his academic career.
