The Section of Hematology/Oncology is very involved in different areas of research that extend from the molecular level to encompassing the well being of the entire individual. Our basic research studies provide innovative insights into the functioning of the human cell on the genetic and molecular level. These insights are then applied to the development of novel agents and clinical trials for cancer treatment.

The clinical trials that we have available for patients are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies, cooperative groups such as the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG), and trials that originate within our University.

Our basic science research has pioneered studies in the molecular genetics of hematologic cancers, cancer immunology, cell signaling, the mapping of cancer genes, and stem cell research.
