Dr. Sikka completed her medical school training at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago and then went on to do her fellowship training in infectious diseases at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.   She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. 

Dr. Sikka currently serves as the medical director for infection control at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.  Her research interests include prevention of healthcare associated infections, specifically catheter related infections and those caused by resistant gram-negative bacteria. Her clinical interests include general infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS.
