Dr. Zar received is MD with honors at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at Illinois Masonic Hospital followed by a Research Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has been an infectious disease consultant for 20 years and is in his 15 th year as an Internal Medicine Residency Program Director.

Currently Dr. Zar is an Infectious Disease Consultatnt and Firm Chief at the University of Illinois Medical Center. He is the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at the University as well as Course Director of the M2 Clinical Pathophysiology Course at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.

His research interests include HIV therapy, C. difficile diarrhea and medical education. He has been honored to receive the Clifford Pilz Teaching Attending of the Year award for 2003 and 2004.
