Clinical Sites

Throughout the three years of training, residents rotate through a total of six major hospitals. However, what makes the UIC EM residency unique from other programs is that our residents get to call three major medical centers “Home”, spending most of their time at these three centers:

    • University of Illinois Medical Center (UIMC)
    • Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (AIMMC)
    • Mercy Hospital and Medical Center (Mercy).

Each ED is staffed by UIC Emergency Department faculty. This affords the EM resident various learning opportunities in several different environments. All of these hospitals are conveniently located within a 6-mile radius of downtown Chicago within the major metropolitan area.  All of these facilities are easily accessible by major throughways and public transportation.

You may have also noticed that our program has a longstanding relationship with several other hospitals that our residents have the privilege of rotating through in order to gain specialized experience in various fields. These include Children’s Memorial Hospital (PICU), McNeal Hospital (community EM), Mount Sinai Hospital (EM), Advocate Christ Medical Center (Trauma), and University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital (Pediatric EM).

Most of our residents live near one of these three home sites, while a few others live in the near suburbs taking the expressways or the “L” to get to work.
