Keith A. Warren, MD, has built a successful career at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. As chair, he will lead the department of ophthalmology and the school toward continued successes in research, medical education and patient care.

Dr. Warren earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He then completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Virginia Hospital and a residency in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Virginia. He performed a retina and vitreous fellowship at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Following his fellowship training, Dr. Warren joined the faculty of the University of Kansas School of Medicine as an assistant professor of ophthalmology, director of the ophthalmology residency program and supervisor of the Vitreoretinal Surgery and Diseases Fellowship Program. He was named associate professor in 1998 and interim chair of the department in 2000. In October 2002, he was appointed chair of ophthalmology.

Currently, Dr. Warren is principal investigator on two research projects and co-investigator on two others. His research concerns the study of ocular inflammatory diseases and cystoid macular edema. He has published numerous manuscripts, book chapters and abstracts and has presented more than a dozen scientific papers.

Dr. Warren is the recipient of the Krause Award for Outstanding Performance by a Researcher in the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation, National Institutes of Health (1983), and the Morton F. Goldberg Award for the Outstanding Fellow, University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary (1994). In 1997, he was elected Among the One Hundred Most Influential African Americans in the Kansas City Community, Globe Magazine.
