Medical illustrators receive training in both medicine and art studying such subjects as human gross anatomy, neuro-anatomy, histology and embryology. In addition, artists must gain drawing skills in both traditional and computer media. Medical illustration is a highly specialized field with only 5 accredited programs in the U.S., accepting 3-12 graduate students per year.
