Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Second Edition, edited by Jennifer I. Lim, Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Retina Service at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, has been released by Informa Healthcare.

The book compiles groundbreaking research on the etiology, assessment, and treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). It explores research advancements and novel therapies that offer sight-saving, less destructive forms of treatment. The second edition offers three new chapters, new color illustrations and expansive section updates, providing the latest studies on OCT imaging, experimental treatments, new applications for thermal lasers, and gene therapy for AMD. It also summarizes studies from current clinical trials to remain the gold standard in care for patients with this disabling disorder.

Dr. Lim joined the University of Illinois in July 2007. Her clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases, retinal vascular diseases, retinal vascular disease, vitreoretinal surgery, ciliary body and choroidal tumors.

Dr. Lim has been named one of the Best Doctors in America. She holds leadership positions in the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Over the last 10 years she has directed more than 25 retina clinical trials and has already started 6 at UIC, including Multicenter, Randomized, Single-masked Study Comparing Reduced-fluence Visudyne-Lucentis Combination Therapies and Lucentis Monotherapy in Subjects with CNV Secondary to AMD (RADICAL), Ranibizumab Therapy for Choroidal Neovascularization Associated with Angoid Streaks, Experimental Approach to Maculopathy, Intravitreal Ranibizumab or Triamcinolone Acetonide as Adjunctive Treatment to Panretinal Photocoagulation for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy, Open-Label, Dose Escalation Study of the Safety and Tolerability of 20089 (Triamcinolone Acetonide Intravitreal Injection) in the Treatment of Patients with Cystoid Macular Edema Associated with Retinal Vein Occlusion or Cataract Surgery, and Randomized, Double-Mask, Placebo-Controlled, Dose-Response, Phase 2 Study of the Safety and Efficacy of Thymosin Beta 4 in the Treatment of Diabetic Patients' Corneal Wounds Resulting from Epithelial Debridement During Vitrectomy. Dr. Lim's research interests include clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, immulo-histochemistry of surgical specimens, and anti-angiogenesis treatments.

Dr. Lim received her MD from Northwestern University and completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. She completed a Fellowship in Medical Retina and Surgical Retina at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She had academic appointments in the departments of ophthalmology at Emory University and at the University of Southern California before joining UIC as Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Retina Service.
