DR. LIM RECEIVES WOMEN IN OPHTHALMOLOGY’S PRESTIGIOUS SUZANNE VERONNEAU TROUTMAN AWARD At the recent American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 2009 Annual Meeting, Jennifer I. Lim, MD, was presented with the Women in Ophthalmology’s 2008 Suzanne Veronneau Troutman Award. The highly esteemed and coveted award is given to the individual who has done the most, during the immediate preceding year, to advance and enhance the position of Women in Ophthalmology (WIO). “This award means a lot to me since it is peer nominated [and unsolicited] and hence represents recognition by my peers,” says Lim, Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Retina Services, at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. “I am honored by the award. I have very much enjoyed mentoring women ophthalmologists and participating and organizing meetings in which women can interact.” The Dr. Suzanne Veronneau Troutman award nominees were selected and voted upon during the WIO’s Annual Summer Symposium Board of Directors meeting. The members held a closed door meeting to nominate and hold a blind vote on qualified professionals in the field of ophthalmology, including non-members of WIO. The winner was announced two months later during the WIO annual meeting and reception at the Omni CNN Center, which takes place during the AAO Annual Meeting. Dr. Suzanne Veronneau Troutman was there herself to present the award to Dr. Lim. Dr. Lim joined the University of Illinois in July 2007. Her clinical interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases, retinal vascular diseases, retinal vascular disease, vitreoretinal surgery, ciliary body and choroidal tumors. Dr. Lim has been named one of the Best Doctors in America. She received her MD from Northwestern University and completed her residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Lim performed her Fellowship in Medical Retina and Surgical Retina at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition, she held academic appointments in the departments of ophthalmology at Emory University and at the University of Southern California before joining UIC as Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Retina Services.
