Oculoplastics Expert Pete Setabutr, MD, Joins UIC

Pete Setabutr, MD, is a new Assistant Professor of Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Illinois College of Medicine-Chicago. His clinical interests include diseases related to the eyelids and orbit.

“It is exciting to be here at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary,” said Dr. Setabutr, who performed his oculoplastics fellowship at the IEEI. “The opportunity to come back and work with such talented physicians is truly an honor. I look forward to adding my services here at the Infirmary and at the Millennium Park Eye Center.”

Dr. Setabutr will see patients in the Oculoplastic Surgery Service at the University of Illinois, co-directed by Allen M. Putterman, MD and Amjad Ahmad, MD. “Dr. Setabutr brings fresh energy, competence and integrity to the oculofacial plastic surgery section at the University of Illinois,” says Dr. Putterman. “He joins us with a great deal of surgical experience, a talent for teaching and a warm personality that should win over patients and faculty.”

Dr. Setabutr graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin before completing his medical degree at the University of Texas at Houston Medical School. He later served as Chief Resident there and was awarded the Robert D. Moreton, M.D., Award for being an Outstanding Resident in Ophthalmology. In addition, his internship was performed at the St. Francis Hospital. Dr. Setabutr’s research interests include diseases related to the eyelids and orbit.
 
“I’m excited to work with Dr. Setabutr because of his devotion to clinical excellence and his enthusiasm for patient care,” says Amjad Ahmad, MD, clinical assistant professor and co-director of the Oculoplastic Surgery Service. “He is a true gentleman and we are lucky to have recruited him to our service.”

Dr. Dimitri Azar, professor and head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, noted that the Department is extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Setabutr to the faculty and to expand the services of the Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery Service.

Dr. Setabutr is currently accepting patients at both the IEEI and Millennium Park offices.
