ProceduresLaser Vision Correction Services LASIK (Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) surgery involves reshaping the cornea with a laser, allowing light to be refocused and vision improved. In LASIK, a corneal flap is created by using a laser or a mechanical approach. The flap is repositioned after the corneal reshaping. LASIK can correct varying degrees of nearsightedness (myopia) farsightedness (Hyperopia) and astigmatism and is generally the treatment of choice for patients with high myopia. INTRALASE ®(Femtosecond Laser) provides an all laser approach to creating a corneal flap during laser vision correction surgery. This less invasive, computer controlled approach allows the physician to achieve more precise correction for certain vision disorders and corneal anatomy. CUSTOMCORNEA ®(With LASIK and LASEK) involves capturing the subtle imperfections of the cornea to create a 3-dimenstional map that is unique to the eye, tailoring a distinct correction for each individual. The map is then used to guide the laser in order to customize your treatment. This means that rather than treating you for myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, the surgeon can treat your individual visual irregularities. Hence, CUSTOMCORNEA treatment possesses the ability to improve not only how much you can see, but also the overall quality of your vision. PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) reshapes the surface of the cornea with an excimer laser, which uses a cool ultraviolet light beam after removing the epithelial surface layers of the cornea. PRK may be suitable for people with large pupils, thin corneas, other corneal issues or dry eye. LASEK/ EPI-LASIK involve temporarily removing the most superficial covering (epithelial sheet of cells) of the cornea. Once this is accomplished the excimer laser treatment is given to the exposed corneal surface. The epithelial sheet is replaced on the surface of the eye and a soft contact lens is inserted for a few days following surgery. LASEK/EPI-LASIK CK (Conductive Keratectomy) changes how the eye focuses light by reshaping the cornea using radiofrequency energy to heat and shrink corneal tissue instead of a laser to improve near vision. CK is the only vision procedure specifically designed for patients over 40 for the temporary reduction of presbyopia. ICRS (Intracorneal Ring Segments) are small, clear, crescent-shaped pieces of transparent plastic polymer placed in the outer periphery of the cornea, used to treat a specific low range of nearsightedness (myopia).
