LIERI Lions support Scouts in 2nd Annual Lions Night Walk

Lion Kelly Wentz-Hunter led a Webelo Den from Cub Scout Pack 172 to “walk in the dark” as part of the 2 nd Annual Lions Night Walk in Wheaton , Illinois , held at the Danada Equestrian Center on June 4th, 2006 .

The Scouts had a good time walking the three mile course, which began at 7:00 pm . All participants received Night Walk flashlights to help show the way. Before setting out on the walk, the Scouts had the opportunity to learn how the visually impaired play beep-ball - baseball with a beeping ball - and to navigate an “obstacle course,” comprised of everyday items such as ramps and trashcans, while blindfolded and using a cane.

Lion Janet Slyzk, president, Lion Julie Daraska, Lion Pat Wager, and Lion Maureen Comisky, all fellow LIERI Lions Club members, each sponsored the Scouts and helped them raise $225. Of that amount, $90 will be directed to the LIERI club to be used for humanitarian projects.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for the Scouts to learn about the realities of living with vision loss,” said Lion Kelly. “I appreciate the support of the LIERI club.
