Eye Conditions

Keratitis

This is painful inflammation and swelling of the cornea that sometimes occurs with infection after bacteria or fungi enter the cornea, trauma, chemical exposure, or thermal injury   This type of infection can also arise after injury from wearing contact lenses. Vision is usually impaired.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Severe pain; painful inflammation

  • Reduced visual clarity

  • Corneal discharge

  • Corneal scarring in more severe cases

Treatments and Prevention

  • Antibiotic

  • Antifungal eye drops
