Pterygium
A wedge shaped, raised growth of the conjunctiva. Most commonly found in individuals who spend a lot of time in the sun or live in tropical climates.
Signs and Symptoms
- Irritation
- Redness
- Tearing
- Growth over the central cornea can affect vision
- May alter the shape of the cornea causing astigmatism
Treatments and Prevention
- If grows over central cornea surgical removal is necessary
- Protect eyes from sun, dust and wind
- Artificial tears
- Steroid drops to reduce inflammation
