Core Research FacilitiesMachine Shop Module
The Machine Shop Module is responsible for the design and construction of custom-built apparatus for a wide range of research programs and for regularly maintaining various items of equipment. The Machine Shop provides investigators with high-level mechanical engineering expertise and rapid turnaround – essential for ongoing studies in which the availability of organisms may be limited. Dr. Harris Ripps, is a renowned physiologist and has directed the Machine Shop module since 1993. The Machine Shop occupies 810 sq. ft in the basement of the LIERI Building and consists of two rooms. The workshop is equipped with a number of basic machines for routine machining chores. Oversize pieces of equipment requiring large work beds and specialized machine tools are handled by the UIC’s larger shop facilities. A mechanical engineer, Marek Mori , MS has served the Machine Shop module since its inception in 1984. |
