Research NewsCornea researcher joins ophthalmology facultyJin-Hong “Robert” Chang PhD joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual sciences faculty as an assistant professor on March 31, 2006. Chang is principal investigator of a National Eye Institute research project and a promising researcher with outstanding academic credentials. Chang comes to UIC from Harvard Medical School, where he was an Ophthalmology instructor at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. While at Harvard, he successfully applied for a research grant that examines the mechanisms of corneal neovascularization, a major cause of blindness worldwide. He will continue working on the project at UIC. “The Department of Ophthalmology at UIC has dedicated clinical and basic researchers. I am looking forward to working with them as a team,” Chang said of his new appointment. “I am delighted to be a part of such a diverse and dynamic research group,” he added. Chang was a post doctoral scientist in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Virginia and in the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Harvard Medical School from 1990 to 1998. He received the David Abraham Fellows in pediatric oncology for his outstanding contribution to advancing pediatric cancer research. In 1990, Chang received his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Mississippi and was honored with the Robert A. Mahaffey, Jr. Memorial Award for outstanding research achievement in biochemistry. He obtained his bachelors in science degree in food science from National Taiwan Marine University in 1980. -by Poornima Krishnan |
