J-1 Visa Holder "Continuation of Sponsorship" Applications |
Dear Residency Coordinators: |
J-1 Visa holders should submit their "Continuation of Sponsorship" applications 8-10 weeks before the expiration date on their DS2019 (formerly called the IAP 66). When you notify your J-1 residents about the continuation applications, please remind them to pay close attention to the checklist. Applications with missing documentation will not be accepted by ECFMG. The "Continuation of Sponsorship" applications can be found on the ECFMG website and in the Graduate Medical Education Office. The average processing time is 6 to 8 weeks, but may be longer due to the events of September 11, 2001. Please ask the J-1 residents in your department to submit their complete applications as soon as possible. When the IAP 66 expires, so does the resident physician's employment. |
