Your First Paycheck
February 5, 2009
All New Residents and Fellows
University of Illinois at Chicago
Subject: Your First Paycheck
Dear New Resident or Fellow:
As a resident or fellow, you will be on the same monthly payroll schedule as faculty and academic professional staff. The monthly pay cycle begins on the 16th of each month and ends on the 15th of the following month. We are paid, for example, on July 16 for work performed during the period June 16 though July 15.
Because it is likely that you will NOT receive your first paycheck on July 16, we ask that you please budget accordingly.
Due to the timing of the (electronic and hard copy) paperwork through the University systems, the number of pre-employment screenings that must be completed, and the fact that your starting date is in the middle of a pay period, it is nearly impossible to process your new appointment before the University's deadline for the July 16 paychecks.
In the highly probable event that your paperwork misses the cutoff for the July 16 paycheck, we will process a "pay adjustment" for your first paycheck.  Those are paid out at least once a week, on Fridays.
We cannot predict the exact timing of the processing for any individual's new appointment.  However, if your file is complete and everything is in order, you can reasonably expect to receive the pay adjustment (the July 16 pay) no later than August 16, and probably earlier.
Please feel free to contact the GME Office resident contacts if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Cathy Canfield-Jepson
Director of Graduate Medical Education
