USCIS Change of Address Regulations
| Prepared by the UIC Office of International Services (OIS) on July 30, 2002 |
This is an update about notifying the USCIS of changes of address. |
Over the past few weeks many of you have heard the news about a proposed regulation which requires non-US Citizens to notify the Immigration and Naturalization Service of any changes of address. The notification must be filed within 10 days of the change. |
While this rule is not new, it is now mandatory and will be enforced. The enforcement part is the key change in this regulation and the reason for our notification to you. |
Informing the USCIS of your current address is simple and should not take more than five minutes of your time. |
The Department of Justice/Immigration and Naturalization Service has issued a form called "Form AR-11 - Alien's Change of Address Card". Copies of this form can be obtained at the UIC Office of International Services (2160 SSB, 1200 West Harrison Street, Chicago, Illinois) or by visiting the USCIS website and downloading the form. |
To complete the form, you simply need to provide the information requested. |
1.

3.

The card is divided into two sections. You only need to send the TOP section to the USCIS. The address can be found at the bottom of the AR-11 form. |
Once you've mailed this card to the US Department of Justice, you have done your part in maintaining your current address with the USCIS. |
Make sure you remember to fill out and mail this form each time you change your address. We encourage you to keep a copy of the form you send to USCIS with a notation of the date that you mailed it. |
If you are an international student, faculty, or staff member, please make sure that OIS and UIC always have your current physical address (PO Boxes or UIC addresses are not acceptable) and telephone number on file as well. |
