The ACGME requires that the residents curriculum provides a regular review of ethical, socioeconomic, medical/legal, and cost-containment issues that affect GME and medical practice. The curriculum must also provide an appropriate introduction to communication skills and to research design, statistics, and critical review of the literature necessary for acquiring skills for lifelong learning. There must be appropriate resident participation in departmental scholarly activity, as set forth in the applicable Program Requirements. |

Online GME Core Curriculum |
The Department of Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education Offices will provide an on-line core curriculum that meets the ACGME requirements, as well as offering non-ACGME required courses. The courses will be offered in such a manner that every resident in an ACGME-accredited program will have the opportunity to complete each module. Residents in non-ACGME-accredited programs, including College of Dentistry residency programs, will also participate in the core curriculum as appropriate for their program requirements. |
Program directors will be provided with information regarding their residents
participation in and completion of the on-line core curriculum modules. |

Alternative Core Curriculum Options |
A program may choose to utilize the on-line core curriculum, devise its own core
curriculum, or use a combination of both. If the complete on-line core curriculum is
not used, the program director should submit to the GME Office its alternate plan,
including explanation of the curriculum and how successful completion will be
monitored. |
