Teaching Skills Program for PGY1 Residents
The UIC College of Medicine provides a series of workshops and practica to enhance residents' teaching skills. Attendance is mandatory for all PGY1 residents unless your training program offers an approved, alternative  teaching skills curriculum.
The first workshop, which is presented at GME New Resident Orientation in June, introduces the principles of clinical teaching and effective feedback. Subsequent workshops will reinforce this material and focus on additional teaching skills such as:
   Effective lectures and presentations
   Case-based teaching
   Teaching at the bedside
   Teaching procedural skills
PGY1s must attend two workshops in addition to the one presented at GME New Resident Orientation. Workshops are 1.5 hours in length and are held in the Department of Medical Education, room 988 CME, 808 South Wood Street, in groups of about 10-30 residents from different specialties and programs. The sessions are highly interactive and include opportunities for you to practice your new skills.
