University of Illinois at Chicago
Pediatrics Residency Program

                                Meet The Director

Welcome to the University of Illinois at Chicago Pediatric Residency Program. We are proud of the excellent education and training our residents receive in our Pediatric Program. Our track record shows we offer a strong, well-rounded foundation that graduating residents have used to start very successful careers. Many of our graduates join private practices in the Chicago area, while others take on the role of pediatric hospitalists. Many use their training at UIC as a stepping stone to pursue a fellowship or work in academic pediatrics and clinical research. The balanced approach to patient care and medical education offered in our program allows residents to develop outstanding clinical skills.
Our faculty consists of a complete complement of general pediatricians and subspecialists representing all areas of pediatrics. Our extremely dedicated faculty members are committed to patient care, teaching, and research – the hallmarks of a true academic medical center. All of our faculty members are easily approachable, accessible, and ready to serve as resident advocates.

Much of a resident's experience at UIC is in Ambulatory based activities, a feature that makes our program unique from many others. Through these rotations, residents are exposed to a diverse population of patients from all ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic status. The diversity of patients allow residents to manage simple pediatric illnesses to extremely complex and chronic conditions.

The program values personal growth as much as professional growth and development. We understand your need to balance professional and personal life and the importance of camaraderie amongst the residents. We foster and promote teamwork and collegiality between residents by sponsoring annual retreats for each class.

As Program Director I strongly believe in good, open communication with the residents. We hold monthly end of rotation lunches that serve as a forum for residents to give feedback to the Program Director. I firmly believe a good leader encourages his followers to tell him what he needs to know and not what he wants to hear. This philosophy allows a program to reflect, analyze, and make changes and improvements necessary for growth and success.

I look forward to discussing our program with you further.
