Personal Interests and accomplishments
Outside of my work at the University, my personal interests include leadership and capacity building efforts to support Higher Education in Nigeria. I currently serve as the President of The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation, a MacArthur supported Foundation based in New York, charged with the responsibility of making the case for support of higher education in 4 designated Institutions in Nigeria (www.thenhef.org link for details).
I am also the Founder and President of Healthy Life for All Foundation (www.hlfonline.org), a Non Governmental Foundation based in Nigeria with the objectives of promoting healthy lifestyles, capacity building through technology transfer and collaborative research, development of a clinical trial infrastructure and to develop private/public partnership in achieving the aforementioned goals.
I have 3 wonderful children and love to travel and bike. I played cricket for Nigeria decades ago

Clinical Research
My research in asthma focuses on the determination of appropriate or best practice for asthma management through collaborative and multi-center clinical research projects as part of the American Lung Association designated Asthma Clinical Research Centers.
I am also interested in the relationship between environmental and genetic factors on the expression of asthma especially in a developing country setting such as Nigeria, focusing on regional differences between rural and urban settings and ultimately comparing to similar settings in inner city Chicago

My research work in Sleep deals with the understanding of the impact of compromised cerebral blood flow (using near infra-red spectroscopy) and intermittent hypoxemia, which characterizes obstructive apnea events in OSA on cognitive function and performance.
